Seal Rock & Waldport

  • Seal Rock is an early coastal resort town, with a residential community and a number of facilities along the way.
  • The chainsaw sculptures of Ray Kowalski and Brian McEnemy are featured prominently.
  • Waldport is a community of 1600 on Alsea Bay, offering fishing, crabbing, and clamming.
  • The drive along Oregon 34 to Corvallis is scenic. Also the Alsea River offers record runs of salmon, steelhead and cutthroat, with access along Highway 34.
  • Drift Creek Wilderness, a few miles east of Waldport, is accessible only to hikers.

Yachats

  • Yachats is known as the "Gem of the Oregon Coast".
  • The Yachats Kite Festival is the most laid back and the oldest on the coast.
  • The annual Smelt Fry in July celebrates the sardine-like fish that come ashore to spawn between June and September.

Florence

  • At the mouth of the Siuslaw River is Florence, the City of Rhododendrons, which explodes with vivid pink blossoms in late spring.
  • With a population of 6000-plus, Florence has a modern hospital and a new library.
  • Florence is also the northern gateway to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The sandy landscape stretches 47 miles down the coast to North Bend, offering numerous ways to have fun.
  • In addition to some large, new stores on Highway 101, Florence has a vibrant Old Town area, with many shops, restaurants, and offices.
